(Bettye-Lynn Underwood)

I'm the indie writer's best friend, for I love the written word and love to edit! With my skills and strengths, I can make your words shine! I'm a thorough, all-around editor, not just a glorified proofreader. Best of all, I understand that most indie writers have limited budgets and price my services accordingly.

I present these additional qualifications and services:

• Professional writer for over 20 years, nonfiction (newspaper columnist) and fiction (35 novels of romance and women's fiction published under pen names, the best known of which is "Bettye Griffin," plus ghostwritten titles).

• Proofreader (limited to correcting errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, missing, extra, or incorrect words, and consistency; this is done after editing, just prior to publication).

• Editor (incorporating typos, overused/misused/missing words, incorrect facts, inconsistencies, redundancies, contradictions, implausibilities, confusing narrative, pronoun misuse, adverb overuse, point-of-view [in fiction] errors, timeline errors, tense, transitions, clarity, syntax, and of course, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure).

• Book doctoring AND manuscript evaluation. With so many published romance novels to my name, I possess a thorough understanding of the genre and know what works and what doesn't. I can clean up plots that contain outlandish elements (e.g., the billionaire who personally meets with the woman hired to clean his offices to explain her job duties to her, or the billionaire who bumps into an attractive, desperate woman on the street and on the spot offers her a job taking care of his precious children without so much as a background check, etc.) and revise them into a plot that is both engrossing and believable.

• Ability to make editing suggestions without changing the writer’s voice.

• Complimentary courtesy sheet of suggestions to improve clients' writing, along with specific examples.

• Transcription and typing (90 WPM), specifically of medical reports, dictated or handwritten text for fiction and nonfiction manuscripts, and two-person conversations.

• Thorough knowledge of medical terminology; qualified to do medical editing and proofreading.

• Accurate, thorough, and confidential service.

• Reasonable rates, with an increased fee for rush jobs.
